The iPhone knows who you are, where you are, and has access to your payment methods. It puts ubiquitous computing in context, and that’s why we’re still discovering whole new futures it might enable.
What’s Next
It also needs a temporal context. Not just what time it is, but the user’s temporal context: are they starting a project, or finishing one, are they ahead of schedule, is their schedule getting more congested or opening up? These temporal milestone will be the triggers that apps look for.
As mobile changes not just what work gets done on mobile, but what work itself does, what we think of as coding is going to change. It may look more like IFTTT, but it’s unlikely we can see it clearly. Yet I’m pretty sure it’s flows are going to be initiated more by the users’ temporal context than by someone clicking on something.
